A woman has been ordered to pay more than £500 after unlawfully using a disabled badge when parking.
The woman, from Ely, Cardiff, is one of 10 people that have been charged a collective £4,087 for unlawful use of a disabled badge, which is provided to those with mobility issues.
Last month 10 defendants appeared in Cardiff Magistrates’ Court for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle.
They were fined at court on June 18 for acting in contravention of a Cardiff council parking control order with court documents stating: “At that time there was displayed on the motor vehicle a badge of a form prescribed under section 21 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 and you were using the vehicle in circumstances where a disabled person’s concession would have been available to a disabled person’s vehicle.”
In one case a 84-year-old man from Rumney, Cardiff, was fined £170 and ordered to pay £300 in costs and a £34 surcharge bringing the total amount owed to £504.
In another case a 48-year-old man from Cathays was fined £40 and ordered to pay £100 in costs and a surcharge of £34 to create a total balance of £174.
But the biggest fine was given to a woman from Ely who was fined £220 and charged costs of £300 and a victim surcharge of £34, meaning she must pay a total of £554.
The people below were all fined after either pleading guilty or after the verdict was proved in their absence of unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle at the end of 2020 or during the first few months of 2021.
- A 57-year-old woman from Merthyr Tydfil was fined £40 and ordered to pay a total of £374 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on February 16, 2021.
- A 69-year-old man from Penylan was fined £40 and ordered to pay a total of £374 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on February 23, 2021.
- A 84-year-old man from Rumney was fined £170 and ordered to pay a total of £504 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on November 28, 2020.
- A woman from Ely was fined £220 and ordered to pay a total of £554 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on January 12, 2021.
- A 48-year-old man from Cathays was fined £40 and ordered to pay a total of £174 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on December 12, 2020.
- A 67-year-old woman from Swanbridge was fined £92 and ordered to pay a total of £426 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on December 19, 2020.
- A 20-year-old man from Canton was fined £107 and ordered to pay a total of £441 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on December 15, 2020.
- A man from Roath was fined £40 and ordered to pay a total of £374 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on December 19, 2020.
- A 60-year-old woman from Thornhill was fined £122 and ordered to pay a total of £456 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on November 21, 2020
- A 42-year-old woman from Pentwyn was fined £76 and ordered to pay a total of £410 for unlawfully using a disabled person’s badge in relation to the parking of a vehicle on November 21, 2020.
